STEAM Education Summer Program:
The Acronym, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, combines subjects known to increase critical thinking and problem-solving skills through unique hands-on learning opportunities. Our STEAM program fills an important gap in education.
STEAM is important to 21st century African Education. Not only does a STEAM framework teach students how to think critically, problem and uses creativity, it prepares students to work in fields that are poised for growth. Educating students in STEAM subjects prepares students for life.
Our Summer program is designed for young Africans and African American females in grade school between the ages of 8 and 16 years old. We focus a lot on technology and The Arts (African Arts). The analytical principles of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are immersed into and through the Arts.
The “A” in STEAM stands for the Arts, but even this subcategory can use explanation. In the context of STEAM, the Arts extends beyond music, drama, dance, and visual arts to include humanities, language arts and even design.
Example:
Nubian pyramids were built by the rulers of the ancient Kushite Kingdoms. The area of the Nile valley known as Nubia lies within the North of present-day Sudan, which was the site of three Kushite Kingdoms during antiquity.
STEAM program would include the Science of Nubian pyramids, understand the technology and engineering and math of how it all flows together with the Arts of course would be the design itself and the writing (Hieroglyphic) on the wall, In understanding the Nubian Pyramids in modern times would involve the STEAM process. This is just one example out of many.
